Pocono Pub presents check for homeless veterans

Pocono Record - 10/27/2017

Oct. 27--BARTONSVILLE -- The Original Pocono Pub and Grill presented a $3,045 check donation Thursday night to Operation Chillout, a New Jersey-based organization working to help homeless U.S. military veterans.

The money came from Pocono Pub's business profits.

Operation Chillout members report their organization has rescued 75 homeless veterans this year. Of the 75, 10 were homeless in Monroe County.

One veteran rescued from Ledgewood, N.J., was brought to Paul's House, the former Jonas Hotel in Polk Township. Run by another veterans' organization called VALOR (Veterans Assisted Living and Outreach), Paul's House provides transitional housing for veterans while they look for permanent housing, employment and help with paper work, benefits and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Operation Chillout has distributed more than 200 backpacks, cases of bottled water and clothing to homeless veterans encountered this year.

Last Christmas, the organization distributed more than 100 holiday stockings filled with gloves, hand-warmers, socks and other survival items. Members helped one veteran get firewood for his house, as his oil furnace was inoperable, to keep his wife and son from freezing.

Operation Chillout has also provided several homeless Pennsylvania veterans with gift cards for food and filled veterans' vehicles with gasoline.

More information about the organization is available at www.operationchillout.org or by calling 908-509-1462.
