Mental health committee awards $29,500 in grants

The Star Democrat - 11/8/2016

QUEENSTOWN - The Queen Anne's County Mental Health Committee recently awarded $29,500 in grants to seven organizations that provide mental health services to residents of Queen Anne's County.

Grants were awarded to Crossroads Community Inc., Eastern Shore Hospital Center Auxiliary, Haven Ministries, Queen Anne County Department of Social Services Nurturing Program, Talisman Therapeutic Riding, Compass Regional Hospice and the Queen Anne's County Department of Health's Healthy Families Program.

"These grants are made possible by community support of our fundraisers, and through generous donations from local businesses and individuals," said QACMHC President Kelly Phipps.

QACMHC's most recent fundraiser was the "Old Bags Luncheon," held on Sept. 16, which raised more than $27,000. Luncheon sponsors were The Marksmen Company, Shore United Bank, Queenstown Bank, Bennett Point C Landscaping, Bobbie Cusimano/BBC Embroidery, Eastern Shore Dental Care, Monaghan Construction, Roseland Nurseries, Debbie Shiley/Long and Foster, and Judy Wink.

QACMHC was established in 1986 by Lynette Nielsen, after realizing local mental health programs needed access to additional funds to serve the needs of patients. QACMHC volunteers continue this mission by holding fundraisers and soliciting donations from individuals and businesses to help provide and enhance mental health services for the residents of Queen Anne's County.
