Letter to the editor: There is help for mental illness

Tulsa World - 10/8/2016

The most current statistic from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (nami.org) is that one in every five Americans suffers from some type of adverse mental health condition. Twenty percent. One fifth of us.

I could go on with statistics on crime, suicide and unemployment but NAMI already has done the homework so it should get full credit. But, there is something happening right here in town.

Crossroads Clubhouse, a United Way Partner Agency, 1888 E. 15th St., is a community of hope for Tulsa area adults living with a mental illness. It offers choices and opportunities for meaningful employment, education, housing, wellness and social activity. It answers the question, "Beyond treatment, what's next?"

I invite you to our Open House on Oct. 20 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and live music. Meet staff and members, and take a tour of our building and our garden. We'll show you a video and answer any questions about Crossroads.

Meanwhile, feel free to drop by for a delicious lunch Monday through Friday. For more information visit crossroadsok.org or call 918-749-2141. We're all in it together for mental health, and we hope to see you on Oct. 20.

Editor's note: McClung is development/public relations coordinator at Crossroads Clubhouse.
