BRIEF: Walk hopes to nix stigma of mental illness

Sept. 24--To help change Americans' views on mental illness, walks have been set up in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.
Sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the events, now in their 14th year, raise both awareness and funds.
The group not only hosts education programs and support groups, it provides mental health training and advocates for individuals with mental illness.
Nationwide, the group has raised more than $9 million this year.
The Southern California walks are:
--8 a.m.Oct. 1, Grand Park Event Lawn, 200 N Grand Ave., Los Angeles;
--9 a.m.Oct. 1, William R. Mason Park18712 University Drive, Irvine;
--8 a.m.Oct. 29, Diamond Valley Lake marina, 2615 Angler Ave, near Hemet.
