Springman stepping down after 17 years as County Mental Health Director

Rushville Republican - 9/6/2016

For 17 years, Pat Springman has served as Rush County Mental Health Director, although she recently submitted her resignation.

"I feel it is time. I resigned one other time and came back, but I think it is final this time," Springman said.

Springman began her tenure in the position in June 1999 when then President Mildred Stewart asked if she would serve in the capacity of county mental health director. At the time, Springman had recently retired from working 30 years at the United States District Court in Indianapolis.

Springman replaced Peg Harcourt who had held the county position the previous 12 years.

During the following 17 years with Springman leading the local mental health department, a number of school programs and events involving many volunteers helped make mental health function. Fundraisers such as a musical at the Laughlin Center, garage sales, a holiday arts and crafts expo and a published cookbook (to name a few efforts) generated monies for the local mental health effort.

Springman will step aside in December of this year with all of the current programs currently in place remaining. The gift tree for nursing home residents and holiday gifts for needy children will continue.

Prior to stepping down, Springman thanks the community for their support and help with the many programs and events throughout her tenure as director.

Currently the Mental Health Board of Directors is accepting applications until Oct. 1 for the director position.
