Huron County Health's goal to improve mental health

Norwalk Reflector - 8/13/2016

Aug. 13--The Huron County Health Partner Coalition has a unified goal; to improve the mental health of the community.

As part of this partnership, HCPH is working with Family Life Counseling and Psychiatric Services, a new provider to the area, to share use of clinic space, while the rooms are not in use by HCPH, as reported at HCPH's monthly board meeting. By allowing Family Life Counseling to see its clients in the Norwalk and Bellevue locations, it will expand the community's access to mental health services.

In another effort to increase access to care, HCPH has renewed a memorandum of understanding or MOU with Firelands Counseling & Recovery to continue to provide screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) to HCPH clinic patients.

Mental Health is an important issue and requires collaboration and partnerships in the community. This critical need cannot be solved by one organization, it truly requires collaboration.

The Huron County Health Partners, which includes Huron County Public Health, Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Mercy Willard, Firelands Counseling & Recovery, Family Life Counseling, Huron County Courts, the Oriana House, Inc, Huron County National Alliance on Mental Illness and The Bellevue Hospital have been concentrating their efforts to aggressively address the shortage of mental health providers in the community.
