BRIEF: Police: Man taken for mental health evaluation after standoff with police

Times Leader (Wilkes-Barre, PA) - 4/26/2016

April 26--BUTLER TWP. -- Police say a man is undergoing a mental health evaluation after a brief standoff with police on Monday.

Chief Brian Sabatini said officers were dispatched to a residence in Beech Mountain Lakes for a report of a man waiving a handgun around.

The man was also allegedly yelling that Donald Trump was Lucifer. Sabatini added that the man was also reportedly yelling about gun control and birth control.

The incident happened roughly at the same time that Trump drew a crowd at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Sabatini said that when police arrived on the scene, the man was back inside his residence. Sabatini alleged that at one point, the man briefly came back outside with a shotgun.

"He didn't point it at anybody," Sabatini said.

Sabatini said that the man came out of the house and turned himself into authorities after about two hours.

The man was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton for a mental health evaluation. Sabatini said the man's name will not be released.
