BRIEF: Walk to promote awareness of eating disorders
Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City) - 4/14/2016
April 14--The Oklahoma Eating Disorder Association will sponsor an awareness walk on Saturday at the Chesapeake Boathouse.
According to the organization, 20 million women and 10 million men in the U.S. suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their lives.
"Despite this fact, most of these men and women suffer in silence and do not seek treatment either due to lack of awareness or lack of access to viable treatment options," the organization said in a news release.
"The Oklahoma Eating Disorder Association is dedicated to the prevention of disordered eating, eating disorders and negative body image by raising awareness, providing education and serving as the leading resource of support and identification of treatment resources throughout Oklahoma."
The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to last about two hours.
