OUT AND ABOUT Masquerade gala to benefit suicide prevention

Chronicle, The (Dartmouth, MA) - 9/30/2015

Save the date for the fourth annual “Together We Can Save a Life” masquerade gala fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 17, 6-11 p.m., at Hawthorne Country Club, 970 Tucker Road in Dartmouth.

Proceeds will benefit local nonprofit suicide awareness and prevention agencies that aim to prevent suicide, bring awareness to the causes of suicide, diminish the stigma of suicide and support the survivors of suicide victims.

In an effort to keep her husband’s memory alive and to bring attention to suicide, depression and mental illness, Andrea Gomes organized the event four years ago after losing her husband to suicide in 2009.

The evening will include dinner, dancing, raffles, auctions and fun. The guest speaker will be Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn, who will speak to the rising issue of teenage suicide. Tickets are $40 per person and masquerade attire is suggested.

You can contribute to Andrea’s “Together We Can Save a Life” masquerade gala by attending the event, making a donation or donating an item to the Chance or Live auctions.

Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, and the second leading cause of death for those under age 18.
