BRIEF: Class teaches about mental illness in kids

Sept. 15--VIRGINIA BEACH -- The Virginia Beach affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will offer a six-week class for parents and caregivers of school-age children who have mental illness. The class starts Sept. 24 at the Pembroke 3 office building, 289 Independence Blvd.

The "NAMI Basics" classes are taught by trained teachers who have raised children who developed mental illness at a young age.

The classes are free to parents and caregivers of school-age children with mental illness or demonstrating behaviors that may lead to a mental illness diagnosis.

The classes are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Thursday through Oct. 29.
