Garden helps recovery of adults with mental illness

DEARBORN - ACCESS Hope House members and ACCESS youth volunteers toiled in the soil this spring to plant the center's first community garden.

Hope House members, adults with a history of mental illness, worked together with the youth to dig up the ground near the front comer of the Hope House parking lot, create planting beds and ' _ plant flowers and vegetables.

A row of soaring sunflowers are among the garden's splendor to look forward to this summer. The sunflowers are blooming right now and most of the other plants have blossomed.

The center's members are excited about the garden and use all the vegetables in their daily cooking at the center.

ACCESS Hope House strives to guarantee its members the right to a place to come to, a right to meaningful relationships and a right to participate in a community. Members Hi contribute to their own recovery process by working and socializing together in a safe and welcoming environment.
