Mental health symposium will take place Aug. 28

Aug. 19--ABILENE, Texas -- A symposium on mental health will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Aug. 28 at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, 1674 Pine St.

Mental Health America of Abilene is partnering for the symposium with the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, the Betty Hardwick Center, Abilene Behavioral Health, Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Abilene, and the Jason Foundation.

The symposium's title is "Legislative Updates, Current Research and Treatment Modalities Within Mental Health Care." Speakers will include state Rep. Susan King and state Sen. Charles Schwertner, along with Clark Flatt, founder and president of the Jason Foundation.

The event is free to the public. Lunch will be provided, though advance registration is required. Seating is limited to 150 people.

To register, go to abilenemha.org. Sign-in the day of the symposium will begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 8:45 a.m.

Licensed social workers, licensed professional counselors, licensed chemical dependency counselors, and licensed marriage and family therapists may pay $30 (payable at the event) for continuing education credits.

Depending upon their license, such professionals may earn up to six continuing education hours.
