BRIEF: Free Psych First Aid Course Set Tuesday

June 19--The LeFlore Regional Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps Unit is sponsoring a free "Psychological First Aid" training 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.June 30 at the Sequoyah County EOC, 108 E. Chickasaw, in Sallisaw.

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is the "acute intervention of choice" when responding to the psycho-social needs of children, adults, and families affected by disaster and terrorism, according to a news release.

Recently developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from other individuals involved in coordinating and participating in disaster response, PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.

There is no fee to register but there will be limited seating and lunch will not be provided.

Continuing Education credit will be provided for R.N.'s, CLEET & Mental Health Professionals, including one hour of ethics.
