Mental health resources detailed at Hughes Library event

May 02--An overview of the local mental health delivery system will be presented Saturday, May 9, by the Monroe County League of Women Voters.

The free event will be held at the Hughes Library on Route 611 in Stroudsburg. Light refreshments will be served from 9:30 a.m. preceding the formal program.

Featured speakers include psychotherapist Rosemarie Olivet, whose is a psychiatric nurse, instructor of psychiatric nursing, crisis counselor, and an individual and group therapist. She is a volunteer therapist with the Pocono Alliance, which provides individual and group therapy and crisis intervention to individuals in its Bridges out of Poverty program.

Panelist Prunella Harris, is a licensed clinical social worker and program manager of the Tobyhanna Outpatient Program at KidsPeace, an organization which since 1982 has provided mental and behavioral health care services to children and teenagers.

State Rep. Jack Rader, Jr. R-176, will present an overview of mental health laws in Pennsylvania since the Mental Health Code of 1976 was adopted, citing laws past, present and pending affecting the mentally ill.

Following presentations and a panel discussion, time will be allowed for questions from the audience.

The League of Women Voters of Monroe County provides a voters guide with facts about candidates and issues prior to each primary and general election. The next issue will appear in the Pocono Record on Friday, May 15, prior to the May 19 primary. It also will appear on the League website, LWVMonroeCountyPA.com.
