BRIEF: Expanded Medicaid expected to help mental-health patients

Erie Times-News (PA) - 2/11/2015

Feb. 10--Safe Harbor Behavioral Health Chief Executive Jon Evans can't wait for full Medicaid expansion in Pennsylvania.

Glitches in the Healthy PA program, former Gov. Tom Corbett's alternative to expansion, forced many of Safe Harbor's mental-health patients to lose coverage Jan. 1, Evans said.

"A number of clients were knocked off our lists, and we still don't know why," Evans said. "That hasn't stopped us from treating them, even though we aren't getting reimbursed."

Evans said he expects those patients to be reinstated later this year when the state switches from Healthy PA back to traditional Medicaid. Gov. Tom Wolf began the transition Monday by sending a formal letter to the federal government.
