BRIEF: Ohlone College student mental health program gets $306,000 grant

Argus (Fremont, CA) - 11/12/2014

Nov. 11--FREMONT -- Ohlone College students will continue to have a suicide prevention program, as the college has received a large federal grant for it.

The $306,000 grant will help the school's Student Health Center continue its on-campus program that promotes student mental health and seeks to reduce the stigma associated with asking for help for psychological problems. A key part of the program involves presenting suicide-prevention activities at Ohlone College's two campuses.

A federal agency overseen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will award the three-year grant in annual $102,000 increments.

Only 15 colleges and universities receive the grant each year. said Sally Bratton, the college's director of student health.

"It is truly an honor," she said.
