BRIEF: Treasure Valley health center gets federal grant to hire mental health providers

Idaho Statesman (Boise) - 11/12/2014

Nov. 11--Terry Reilly Health Services is among five centers in Idaho that will get a share of $1.2 million of mental-health and substance-abuse grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Terry Reilly operates clinics around the Treasure Valley that primarily serve low-income and uninsured patients. It will use a $250,000 annual grant to hire new providers in Ada County.

Terry Reilly plans to add the equivalent of more than two full-time positions -- a psychiatric nurse practitioner, a psychiatric registered nurse, a social worker/alcohol and drug counselor and a peer support specialist will share full-time and part-time work.

The extra staffing will make it possible for Terry Reilly in Boise to provide 1,900 more behavioral-health services per year and improve its training, screening and referrals, the organization said.

The other clinics that won grants are in Pocatello, Glenns Ferry, Coeur d'Alene and Plummer.

The administration providing the grants says Idaho's new funding will create or expand behavioral-health care for 3,861 Idahoans.
