New Center Community Services hosts eighth annual Walk/5K Run at Detroit RiverWalk for mental health

New Center Community Services' presents its 2014 Walk/5K Run at the Detroit RiverWalk to support the agency's Project Resilience youth program. This family event is Saturday, Sept. 27.

Registration is at 9 a.m. at the Detroit RiverWalk's Rivard Plaza. Participants can register online at www. newcentercmhs.org. The registration fee is $20 per person in advance and $25 event day. There will be opening remarks, a walk/ run overview and warm up. Water stations will be available.

"I am so excited about my first walkathon with New Center. The energy and excitement is very high. Each year participation increases and I expect this year to be the most successful yet," said Joy Calloway, president and CEO.

"We are extremely thrilled to host our walk/ run at the beautiful Detroit RiverWalk and confident that we will reach our goals and make a difference in the lives of children living with mental illness," N. Charles Anderson, board chairman.

With the help of supporters, New Center Community Services will continue to provide the Project Resilience program each summer for children in Detroit and Wayne County communities. Teaming with Radio One, 105.9 KISS FM will be onsite with popular radio host CoCo of the Mason & CoCo Morning Show to kick off the walk/run.
