Augusta Chronicle (GA) - 9/6/2014

Sept. 06--The Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center announced Friday it will host a Mental Health Summit next week for the Augusta community to discuss ways to enhance the quality of mental health and well-being of veterans and their families.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the hospital's uptown campus off Wrightsboro Road.

"This Mental Health Summit provides community partners and our VA staff a chance to establish and enhance positive working relationships so we can come together to address the broad mental health care needs of veterans and their families," said Dr. Yekeen Aderibigbe, the chief of Mental Health Services at the Augusta VA. "Providing an opportunity to dialogue with our community partners is important for developing a proactive approach to help veterans with mental health needs, as well as generating and sustaining relationships that will enhance the quality of mental health services."

Examples of specific topics that will be discussed at the summit include mental health interventions, patient access, military culture, educational resources, and veterans' social and family needs and available resources, according to a news release.
