Northeastern Mental Health consolidating offices

Aberdeen American News (SD) - 3/24/2014

March 24--Northeastern Mental Health Center's three different Aberdeen locations will become one downtown location in early May.

Northeastern will share space at the Blackstone Development Office, 14 S. Main St., which also houses the Wells Fargo auto finance and student loan collection centers.

In the fall of 2012, the center completed a strategic planning process which included employees, clients, board of directors and community stakeholders, CEO Joe Manuel said. One of the main needs identified was to consolidate the center's clinic locations to one centrally located facility.

"It has been a long-standing goal for the organization to be at one site," Manuel said. "To be in a single location will be much more efficient and much better for our clients."

Northeastern Mental Health is operating three clinics, including the administration office at 703 Third Ave. S.E., the clinical/vocational office at 723 Third Ave. S.E. and the B.C. Gerber Professional Services Building at 628 Circle Drive. All will move to 14 S. Main St.

"That plan is to move over the weekend of May 3," Manuel said. "But we will see clients starting on May 6 at the new site."

Manuel said they are in the process of informing clients about the move. There will be about 50 employees working out of the new location.

"We're gonna be leasing about 15,000 square feet," Manuel said. "So we'll have a little over half of the main floor."

Northeastern Mental Health has been providing behavioral health services in northeastern South Dakota since 1958. The center provides mental health services to around 2,100 individuals in 10 counties annually.

Besides the Aberdeen location, Northeastern has offices in Mobridge, Webster and Redfield.

"I'm excited with the prospect of this consolidation, as it will provide a central location that offers a welcoming environment for our clients, employees and visitors," Manuel said.
