Capitol Federal makes $100,000 grant for mental health crisis center

Topeka Capital Journal (KS) - 3/15/2014

A $100,000 grant from the Capitol Federal Foundation will help support Valeo Behavioral Health Care's new crisis center.

The 26,638-square-foot center at 300 S.W. Oakley will offer 26 beds for people experiencing a mental health crisis. It is scheduled to open in the fall.

Other services will include training for medical providers and the general community about mental health and substance abuse issues, according to a news release.

It also will host educational groups about treatment options for mental health problems and general wellness groups.

Glea Ashley, CEO of Valeo, said the community needs more spaces for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

"This expansion will create a regional intake center specializing in mental health emergency care for individuals, community partners, and law enforcement agencies to access crisis services in a more efficient and cost effective way," she said.
